Goal - The students utilize self-evaluation skills.

Objectives:

Unit A - Study Skills Questionnaire (EM page A1, AM pages A2-7)

The students compare persons who use natural ability and those who add study skills to natural ability. They preview the topics of the exercises and activities. The students indicate what is important to them.

Unit B - Math Anxiety Questionnaire (EM page B1, AM pages B2-7)

The students decide if the topics of the questionnaire are useful in the real world, in math class, or in both. They preview the topics of the exercises and activities. The students indicate what is important to them.

Unit C - Test-Taking Questionnaire (EM page C1, AM pages C2-7)

The students decide if the questionnaire topics describe problems or solutions for taking tests. They preview the topics of the exercises and activities. The students indicate what is important to them.

Unit D - Motivation Questionnaire (EM page D1, AM pages D2-7)

The students identify when they use motivation in school. They preview the topics of the exercises and activities. The students indicate what is important to them.

The students identify how they learned what they do well outside of school. They indicate how they use the same study skills in school.

Unit C Nervous and Calm (EM page C3, AM pages C8-11)

The students review how they calm down when they are nervous. They decide how they use the same solutions when they take tests.

Unit D Motivation outside of School, Motivation in School (EM pages D3, D5; AM pages D8-11, D12-15)

    Students evaluate how they use motivation in school. They describe the motivation they use for studying, math, and taking tests.

    Students replace negative self talk with positive self talk to use when they study.

    Students discuss self talk that is helpful to them during math class.

    Students replace negative thoughts with positive self talk to use for taking tests.

    Unit D Self Talk and Motivation (EM page D13, AM pages D22-25) Students affirm positive self talk for studying, math, and taking tests.

    Students write imaginary notes of encouragement from adults who want them to make good grades. They reply with thank-you notes.

    The students use positive statements to describe themselves to others.

    Students discuss encouraging remarks that others say.

    The students evaluate how much motivation counts. They describe how they achieve more and persist longer with motivation.

    Students evaluate how they use various methods to memorize. They role play selected techniques to memorize.

    Unit B How I Learn Best…and Tips for Learning Math (EM pp. B5,6,7,8,9; AM pp. B28-35)

    Students determine if they learn math best by sight, feel, or hearing. They review tips for the best ways to learn math by sight, feel or hearing.

    Unit C Test-Taking Skills (EM pages C13, 15, 17; AM pages C28-33)

    Students prepare speeches for elementary school students. They advise the young students how to use test-taking skills.

    Unit D Motivation When I Study, Take Tests, & for Math (EM pp. D7,9,11; AM pp. D16-21)

    Students list what they want most in life. They put the list in order and name the most important first.
