The Effective Thinking Series

Thank you for your interest in the Effective Thinking Series!

In 1974, Martinson wrote, “almost nothing works”. His work was highly publicized in corrections. In the same decade, professional thought shifted. An emphasis to fix social ills reversed to educate individuals for thinking skills. High recidivism rates reduced with cognitive skills training. The research in corrections introduced a working theory of criminality.

The Effective Thinking Series is a program designed to train and educate individuals in improving thinking processes, allowing for greater opportunities for success.

Who uses the program?

  • Principals in intermediate, middle, high school and alternative schools use the Effective Thinking Series for success motivation in supplemental activities and in-school suspension.
  • Counselors use the Effective Thinking Series for conferences and test-taking skills.
  • Special Education teachers use the Effective Thinking Skills Series for cognitive development. The material is excellent for special needs students, English learners, special populations, and low achievers.
ETS contains three courses: Success Is A Thinking Skill(SIATS), Thinking Skills For Anger Control(TSAC), and Thinking Skills For Testing Success(TSTS).

Success is a Thinking Skill

Success is a Thinking Skill is a curriculum designed for schools, teachers, educational facilities, and correctional institutions to elicit the thinking processes necessary for productive living. The thinking skills include self-evaluation, viewing self and situations constructively, and thinking about how others think. Project planning require students to think ahead. Students consider problems before they happen, devise solutions, connect behavior and results, and define their present success. In the process of the exercises and activities, students make decisions, solve problems, and use reason. The exercise content involves skills for sociability, self-management, and actions of integrity.

SIATS teaches effective thinking skills for social behavior, including self-evaluation, connecting behavior and results, regard for others, and thinking ahead. Click here to learn more.

Thinking Skills for Anger Control

Teachers complained that a problem in classroom was students an underlying level of anger. A review of recent literature revealed new research and a shift in attitudes for anger control. To respond to widespread concern, the author wrote TSAC to accompany Success is a Thinking Skill (SIATS).

TSAC is an innovative and positive curriculum based on the latest research for anger control. Self control is developed with skills to generalize emotional control, including anger. This anger control program has been used by thousands of schools and correctional institutions nationwide. Click here to learn more.

Thinking Skills for Testing Success

Publications of the Effective Thinking Series are in more than 3000 schools in 43 states. Teachers and counselors requested material in the tradition of Success is a Thinking Skill and Thinking Skills for Anger Control to develop thinking skills for testing. The author responded with Thinking Skills for Testing Success(TSTS). The curriculum is positive. Students learn by process.

TSTS is a support system of academic achievement for low performing students. Students learn to connect effort and results, gaining a sense of self-control for success, allowing them to make greater academic progress. Click here to learn more.
